USTA Coaching’s Fellowship in Tennis Coaching & Leadership is an immersive, 12-week Fellowship Program designed to train aspiring coaches in all aspects of foundational coaching and leadership. You'll learn from the best in the industry, complete your USTA Coaching Professional Certification, and gain practical experience through:

On-court Coaching

Fellows gain hands-on experience coaching all ages and stages in camps and sessions, working directly under the guidance of the facility's Directors and Head Pros to apply their USTA Coaching Professional Certification concepts.

Micro-coaching

Micro-coaching sessions focus on delivering high quality group and private lessons, and practicing reflection and effective feedback.

Leadership Sessions

Fellows meet with the industry’s top leaders, including USTA Senior Staff, Subject Matter experts, and USA Tennis.

Play Formats

Fellows have an opportunity to experience different play formats to use for socials, competitive events, and end of class activities

Subject Matter Experts

Lead Coach Developers arrange sessions with local subject matter experts on topics like mental skills, events, and analytics. Fellows are encouraged to set up one-on-one sessions for deeper, personalized discussions based on their interests.

Classroom Sessions

Fellows meet virtually as a group to review concepts from the coursework provided to become a USTA Coaching Professional and prepare to apply these concepts on-court and in their portfolio assignments.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

 

This Fellowship Program aims to create a pipeline of diverse and qualified professional tennis coaches, and anyone meeting the following criteria is invited to apply.

 

  • Recent college graduates eager to begin their professional tennis journey or individuals with a love for tennis and a commitment to coaching, if they also meet the following requirements
  • Minimum of two (2) years of coaching experience
  • Intent to pursue a career as a tennis professional
  • NTRP rating of 4.0 or higher
  • Committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • Able to provide references upon request
  • Current Level 1 Certification from PTR or RSPA, completed the USTA Coaching Fundamentals Workshop, or have equivalency to the USTA Coaching Development Badge.
  • Safe Play Approval is required. Approval must be current or obtained prior to starting the Fellowship. Click here for more Safe Play information.
  • Housing and other expenses are not covered. The fellowship will provide a $12,000 stipend to help offset living expenses
